Hundreds of people have gathered at Kuron Peace Village in Kapoeta East County of Eastern Equatoria state to attend the diamond jubilee of the retired Bishop of Torit.

The celebration that started today has drawn a large number of people that include government officials, church members, relatives and friends of Bishop Paride Taban from within South Sudan and outside the country, Radio Emmanuel reported.

The Bishop said his diamond Jubilee was postponed from May 24 last year when he clocked 75 years of age due to poor roads and much rain that made it impossible to access Kuron area.

Bishop Taban, who was born in Opari Village of Magwi County, explained that he decided to celebrate the diamond Jubilee in Kuron Peace Village in order to give a chance to the local people to meet their leaders.

He stressed that the celebration also gives a chance to the government officials and other development partners working in South Sudan to witness and interact with the people who have never experienced development in their lives.

Bishop Taban recognized the importance of the day saying that it was a thanksgiving moment to God.

Bishop Eduardo Hiboro Kusala of Tombura-Yambio, Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong Lojore, Western Equatoria Governor Joseph Bakasoro and SPLM deputy secretary general Anne Itto are among the officials attending the occasion.

Kuron Peace Village is an underdeveloped area of Kapoeta East some 400 kilometres from Torit.
