The National Legislative Assembly and the Association for Media Development in South Sudan, AMDISS, today agreed that parliament and heads of media houses need dialogue to rebuild relations.

Joy Kwaje Eluzai, who chairs the Committee of Information and Culture at the national assembly, said the reason for a dialogue with heads of various media houses in Juba is to tell them that they should verify stories before publishing or going on air.

She added editors need to crosscheck information to inform the public with stories that tell both sides.

AMDISS Secretary General Hakim Dario Moi said over the years he has been working closely with the government to developed a media policy which was passed by the parliament in 2007.

He said AMDISS cannot be silent to take part in the current debate concerning media in South Sudan.

He added that the association is ready to give views on the best media practices and ethics and relationship between government and media.

Dr Dario said the relationship between the government and media should be based on the rule of law.

ADMISS and the Committee of Information and Culture at the national assembly today met to explore ways to rebuilding relationships between the parliament and media following alleged beating of a Bakhita Radio journalist.
