Micro-finance and other small money transfer offices operating in Wau have resumed businesses after a one-week closure due to licensing issues.
Half a dozen forex companies operating in Wau were temporally closed down by the Central Bank of South Sudan.South Sudan Finance branch manager in Wau, Maku Mark, told Radio Voice of Hope that the Central Bank of South Sudan asked forex operators to close down until they obtained new operation licenses.
He said most private finance business operators had never renewed their licenses since last year.
Mr Mark explained that they usually get licenses from their head offices in Juba.
He said the Central Bank allowed bureaus to continue operating in Wau while their head offices renew the licenses.
Mr Mark revealed that branch operators who did not respect the Central Bank’s circular were arrested by the national security and detained for one night, but were later released without any harm.
He advised all the private micro-finance institutions in the state to adhere to rules and directives from the Central Bank to run their business smoothly.
