Two Sudanese priests that were released yesterday after two weeks of detention by South Sudanese rebels are well but need to go for treatment.

Fathers Joseph Makwey Mathod and Silvestro Mogga were released yesterday after being kidnapped from Kenana parish, in the pastoral region of Kosti, and brought to Kweik by Shilluk rebels.

Assistant Bishop Daniel Adwok Kur of Khartoum told CRN News over the phone from Kosti that the two priests were in good spirits but needed medical attention after their long ordeal.

Bishop Adwok said Fr Makwey was hit on the head and had a cut in one hand but the swelling was going down.

He added that the police is debriefing the two priests in Kosti about the kidnapping, detention and release.

He explained that the archdiocese opened a police case for house trespass and now the investigation has to go through some formalities.

Bishop Adwok said the Archdiocese did not pay any money to free the two priests although the captors were demanding 500 thousand Sudanese pounds to release them.
