Two Sudanese catholic priests, kidnapped two weeks ago, were released yesterday and are well.

Fr David Laraba Koja, acting Vicar General in the archdiocese of Khartoum, told CRN News that fathers Joseph Makwey Mathod and Silvestro Mogga were released yesterday and despite their long and difficult ordeal they were well.

He added that no money was paid to the Shilluk captors to release the two priests.

The captors had asked 250,000 Sudanese pounds to release the two priests.

Fr Laraba said Fr Joseph was wounded in the head and in one hand but he did not know the origin of the injuries.

The two priests were kidnapped on January 14 at Kenana parish, in the pastoral region of Kosti, and were taken to Kweik together with two cars and some belongings by Shilluk kidnappers.

Returnees coming from Kosti said the assailants belonged to rebel leader Olony’s forces.
