A local community asked the parish of St. Theresa’s-Kator, in Juba, to withdraw claims of ownership of land in Hai Kasaba.
The community says it owns the Hai Kasaba land since 1950-1961 when it gave part of the land to the church. The chairman of Hai Kasaba community, Jada Ben, told Bakhita Radio that the land was allotted in 1964.
He added that there is a legal document with details of the land.
Mr Ben said the church failed to justify claims on the Kasaba area and should leave the land.
He added that the community did not occupy church land, because residents have their land title documents.
Joseph Loro Tombe, who is the administrator of Kator payam, said the authority in the payam demarcated all the area and allotted documents.
He added that the payam authority was not informed of the demolitions and the demolition committee did not respect the boundaries set by the payam in Hai Kasaba.
