The presence of Don Bosco’s relic in South Sudan means that the saint who lived almost 200 years ago wants to be part of the new beginning of South Sudan.

This is the message of the Provincial Superior of the Salesians of Don Bosco in East Africa, Ferrington Rayen.

He told Good News Radio that the relic of St Don Bosco is doing a pilgrimage of faith in South Sudan to be part of the historical moment in the country.

Fr. Rayen said Don Bosco’s visit encourages South Sudanese to build their country in Christ and with Christ.

The Provincial superior said Don Bosco promised the youth work, bread, and heaven, and the Salesians keep the promise alive through their different institutions.

He challenged the youth to shun idleness and laziness and to work hard for their livelihood.

The relic of St Don Bosco arrived today in Juba after visiting Wau, Tonj, Yambio and Maridi and proceeded to Rajaf and Gumbo.

It will visit all parishes of Juba, the Hospital and the Prison.

The visit to South Sudan concludes on Tuesday with a youth festival at Juba Football Stadium.
