Yei Forest Department yesterday graduated 17 tree growers at Kegulu Forest Training Centre after they completed a three-day course on forest management.

The graduates, who came from four payams of Yei River County, completed an intensive course on tree nurseries implemented by forest department and funded by Norwegian People’s Aid, Radio Easter reported.

County Assistant Commissioner for Forestry Kennedy Alfred said the training was organized to address the illegal massive cutting of trees the County and to teach tree growers how to prepare nursery beds and plant trees.

Mr Kennedy said the forest is the wealth of South Sudan.

He asked the government to develop policies to protect trees from illegal dealers and investors and avoid the destruction of forests.

Some participants said the training was very useful and they learned how to prepare and maintain tree nurseries.

Mr Kennedy appealed to the communities to protect the forest and get permission before cutting any trees.
