The United Nation Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan said today that more than 120,000 people have been affected by violence in Jonglei State and 90,000 are in dire need of food assistance.
Lise Grande explained to journalists that the number of people affected by violence in Jonglei has doubled.She said the number of people affected by the violence needing life saving assistance stands at 120,000, warning that their conditions are very serious.
Ms Grande added that WFP, the World Food Program, projected that about 90,000 people were in immediate need of food aid.
She said emergency health care services, non-food assistance and water sanitation services have been provided in Pibor and Boma.
She added that the UN has a team protecting lost children and trying to reunite them with their families.
Ms Grande informed that the UN is carrying out assessment in seven payams in Duk County following this week’s retaliatory attacks before delivery aid to the people.
