A teacher in Upper Kumu Model Primary School is encouraging all the girls in the Nuba Mountains to take education seriously despite many challenges facing them.
Teacher Alaban K. said the reason why many girls drop out from school is due to pregnancy and early marriage.She said that most parents do not want to send their girls to school because of traditional beliefs that the girls may get pregnant.
Ms K. urged the parents to stop these bad concepts and send girls to school to get education.
She stressed that girls need education and that they don’t care about what their parents are thinking about.
She advised girls to control their emotional life and take measures to prevent unwanted pregnancies and to stop early marriage so that they continue with education.
Ms K. added that girl-child education needs to be supported so that girls can succeed in their learning.
