The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in the Government of Lakes State is currently prioritizing the use of ox ploughing technology among twelve projects identified by the Ministry to develop agriculture.
Agriculture minister Eli Magok Manyol told Good News Radio that his ministry is working towards the revival of ox ploughing in all counties. He noted that although the technology was adopted in Lakes State, famers have not received any ploughs since 2005.
He disclosed that the ministry intends to purchase about 4,000 ploughs to distribute to all counties in the State.
Mr Manyol admitted that the Ministry has been experiencing difficulties with fundraising for its projects.
He said his ministry is in touch with eight NGOs working in the area of food security in the state in a bid to secure some funding from the European Union for the ox ploughs project.
Mr Manyol said the ministry opted for ox ploughs because famers in Lakes State would be able to use the technology without difficulty.
He added that the Ministry will gradually move to other means of cultivation and invest in horticultural faming as well as commercial agro forestry.
