Two Kenyan companies are competing to invest in agricultural projects in Eastern Equatoria.

State agriculture minister Jerome Surur Gama told Radio Emmanuel that the government is yet assessing the two companies’ proposals.

He added that the winner will be decided in terms of capability and competence so as not to disappoint the state.

Mr Surur said Eastern Equatoria and South Sudan should learn from other African countries to avoid their mistakes.

The minister disclosed that another Kenyan company has won the concession to explore Hatire Forest in Ikwoto Payam.

He said the agreement indicates that if Lukiza performs well, it will also manage Imilai Forest as well.

Mr Surur added that the government is cautious to give out other forests to investors to avoid over-exploitation of state resources.

Eastern Equatoria state is blessed with a number of natural resources that include fertile land, forests, minerals, wild life, and potential for tourism.

None of the natural resources in Eastern Equatoria has been tapped yet due to the socio-political and economic historical constraints.
