The capital of South Sudan is witnessing a new phenomenon in its history with the rise of new independent church members preaching on major streets and markets in town.

The signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement paved the way to many developments in South Sudan, including the arrival of many preachers from independent churches.

A churchgoer, who asked to remain anonymous, told Bakhita Radio in Juba market that it was ridiculous to preach for money as preachers were seen receiving cash from well-wishers.

Betty Transform from True Vine Church was this morning preaching to the passersby and the boda-boda riders.

One preacher said he was answering God’s mandate to preach to all.

He lamented that many people did not have time to go to church.

Betty Transform said street preaching is a way to bring God to people who do not go to church anymore.

Church sources calculate that there are over 60 independent churches operating in Juba alone.
