The Government of South Sudan has decided to construct a pipeline and some refineries after Khartoum blocked several times the transportation of its crude through Port Sudan and the two governments failed to agree on transit fees.

Information Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press after the meeting of the Council of Ministers yesterday that the Cabinet decided to build a new pipeline for South Sudan.

He announced that South Sudan will build also one or two refineries to supply the national market.

Dr Marial classified the action of the Republic of Sudan to block South Sudan’s shipments of crude as hostile.

Dr Mariel said Khartoum’s unilateral decision to take part of South Sudan’s oil was undermining the sovereignty of the Republic of South Sudan.

Dr Marial did not disclose when and through where the pipe line would be constructed.

Some oil companies, including Shell, said they had plans for a pipeline for South Sudan.

In the past the Government announced the construction of an oil refinery at Akon, in Warrap State, but so far it remained a webpage in the internet.
