The governor of Jonglei state said the death of the rebel leader George Athor who had been destabilizing Jonglei would bring peace to the state.
Speaking to Bakhita Radio in Juba, Governor Kuol Manyak Juk said Athor’s death will be a relief to people and will bring peace in the state, particularly in Pigi County.
He added that Athor brought confusion among different communities in Jonglei state.
Mr Kuol said that Athor’s rebellion was not a personal problem against him but the rebel leader misled people when he said he was taking arms because he lost last year’s general election in Jonglei.
He added that his death in Morobo County, Central Equatoria, was a proof that he was having a different agenda.
Mr Athor took up arms after losing in the race for governorship of Jonglei state to Mr. Koul. He accused the government in the state of rigging the elections and refused to accept defeat.
