The Catholic Archbishop of Juba has urged the Government to ensure that the Church in South Sudan is fully involved in the process to prepare the permanent Constitution next year.

The call comes weeks before the process to revise the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan kicks off on January 9, 2012.

Addressing the press today, Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro said the Church should take an active part in the process of reviewing the Constitution in order to promote a political culture needed for development and for peace.

He added that the Government this time must ensure that the whole Church participates in the constitutional process because it was left out during the review process of the Transition Constitution.

Archbishop Lukudu said the Church’s contribution was important to make sure that the permanent Constitution is right and accepted by the people.

He cautioned that if the Church is not represented in the process it be an indication that the country is heading towards the wrong direction.
