Youth from Wau, the capital of Western Bahr el Ghazal, started today a ten-day course on catering to brighten their future.

International Labor Organization (ILO) organized the training in consultation with state Ministry of Social development to teach basic cooking skills to restaurant workers, both men and women, and others who are interested in catering services.

Richard Mwikya, ILO skills training consultant, told Radio Voice of Hope that the ten-day training will enable the participants to learn about hygiene in the kitchen in order to protect public health and develop new cooking skills to prepare better food and attract more clients.

Mr. Mwikya acknowledged that many restaurant workers in Wau are foreigners due to lack of skilled local youths.

He said the course will prepare South Sudanese to work in the catering industry.

He added that the initiative will help the participants to access employment through the awards of certificates so as to earn a living in restaurants and other local institutions as cooks and waiters.

Seventy youngsters from Wau town are benefiting from the training that takes place at the Youth Centre.

ILO has conducted similar trainings in Kuajok, Warrap State, Bor, Jonglei State and Juba, Central Equatoria State.
