A four-month old local association to advance education has organized a competition involving three primary schools in Lakes State.

Nine pupils representing Rumbek Girls, Jiir and Ager Gum primary schools were asked to debate issues on economics, politics and general knowledge.

Better Day Chairperson Mathiang Paul Mayom told Good News radio that the debate was the first attempt by his organization to assemble schools for a competition.

He said the competition was outstanding because all schools showed good a performance.

Better Day Secretary Agok Mayek Riak said the interschool competition is an ideal objective of the organization since it works for developing education in Lakes State through advocacy, coordination and training.

Ager Gum Primary School head teacher, Malou Maker Mabil appealed to parents to give their children freedom to learn in order to have a better future.

He said education is the key to a successful life.

Mr. Maker advised students to read newspapers in order to develop their knowledge.

The competition that took place on Saturday was attended by over 50 pupils.

Three pupils from each of the three schools were involved in the competition.
