Two communities from Greater Kapoeta have called on Eastern Equatoria state government to initiate a peace and reconciliation dialogue to end conflicts in the region.
Toposa and Buya leaders made the call on Tuesday during a meeting at Nawapak between the two communities and area MPs at the State Assembly, Radio Emmanuel reported.Kapoeta North County Commissioner Lokoi Iko organized the meeting following the killing of two Toposa boys at Nawapak by unknown gunmen suspected to be from the Buya community.
The killings affected both the Toposa and Buya communities who equally expressed fears over persistent insecurity in Budi County, saying the state government should help restore peace among the people.
Mr. Iko said he formed a committee with members from both communities and the police force to trace the killers.
The committee helped to stop the two communities to engage in revenge conflicts.
Charles Lokonoi, who chairs the state Assembly committee for security, and Joseph Lomoi, his deputy, spearheaded the peace meeting.
