The police of Tonj South County, Warrap State, have condemned the slaughtering of cattle during the night at all abattoirs operating in the county.

Chief Inspector of Police, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Mayei, said there are rumours that some people steal cattle and slaughter them at night in the town, Radio Don Bosco reported.

He urged butchers to be honest with their work, saying that from now on they will be able to slaughter their animals only after dawn.

Mr. Mayei stated that the police suspects that some people are believed to be killing lost and stolen cattle during the night.

He added that the police will be patrolling all the abattoirs at night in the county.

Mr. Mayei urged meat consumers to be patient.

He said two hours are enough to skin a slaughtered cow and bring it to the market.

He explained that cattle are the pride of Dinka people and they have to be killed in the proper way.
