A train carrying over 1,000 returnees arrived in Wau Railway Station Wednesday evening from Khartoum.
The returnees were received by the State Government headed by the Minster of Health, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) and NGOs staff, Radio Voice of Hope reported.Mr. Mohammed, who is the deputy director of Western Bahr el Ghazal RRC, said the Wau Way Station was well prepared to welcome the returnees with a mobile clinic, toilets, clean water and accommodation facilities.
He added that humanitarian groups will bring the returnees to their final destinations.
Mr. Mohammed welcomed the returnees and told them to enjoy their coming home after many years in Khartoum.
He said NGOs’ staff started verifying the identity of the returnees and after verification they will be transported to their respective destinations.
Fermendos Simon Solman, one of the returnees, said that she was pleased to be back to her home town.
She expressed appreciation for the services offered by the government to the returnees.
Mama Fermendos raised a concern about insecurity in the northern border and urged the Government to protect the returnees.
The train left Khartoum two weeks ago and reached Wau after stopping in Aweil on Saturday, where two more trains ended their journey.
