Security forces yesterday launched an operation against street children in Torit town, arresting over 100 boys below 18 year of age.
Most of the children were arrested in Torit main market locally known as Omoliha market.The security officer who commanded the operation told Radio Emmanuel that the street children were arrested while gambling, playing pool and taking drugs.
He accused the street children of poising threats to the business community in the market.
He said the youngsters loot goods at night and rob mobile phones as well as money in the market.
The security officer, who did not want to be named, said the move to arrest the street children aims at preventing them from becoming wrong elements in Eastern Equatoria.
He added that parents were requested to come to the prison to identify their children and take them home.
