The President of the Republic said accusations that South Sudan is supporting rebels in Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan states of Sudan are baseless and were fabricated to justify Khartoum’s preparations to invade its neighbour.
Salva Kiir Mayardit told journalists today that Sudanese accusations labelled against South Sudan at the UN Security Council were a cover up for Khartoum’s activities supporting militias who fight a proxy war to destabilize the new nation. He said Omar al Bashir’s claims alleging that South Sudan supported opposition forces in Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan states were baseless.
President Kiir added that the claims that South Sudan has moved military equipment from Yafta to Wadaga, in the border area, are lies.
He accused Sudan of threatening the sovereignty of South Sudan adding that the accusations were a prerequisite to invade the South.
President Kiir made these statements after the Sudan Armed Forces bombed a village in Upper Nile killing seven people on Tuesday.
