Murder, adultery and theft are the most common offenses in the Tonj South County of Warrap State.

Tonj Central Prison Director Lieutenant Colonel Fedrick Mayik told Radio Don Bosco today that the great majority of inmates in the prison are charged either with adultery, murder or theft offenses.

He said crimes of adultery and theft are difficult to control because they are inherited.

He added that crimes of murder are being mostly committed using arms but will reduce after guns are collected from civilians.

Mr. Mayik said that Tonj prison needs urgent maintenance works and the county authorities cannot afford them.

He appealed to the national government to finance the renovation of the prison.

Mr. Mayik said he has been including the need for renovation in his monthly reports since 2007 and did not get any feedback yet.
