The head of the Episcopal Church of Sudan in Rumbek has recalled the contribution of the Christian Churches to peace initiatives in South Sudan saying that they spearheaded many reconciliation meetings.
Bishop Alphayo Manyang told Good News Radio that peace is the backbone of human life.He said the Church has facilitated great peace accords, including the 1972 Addis Ababa Agreement.
Bishop Manyang added that both the Catholic Church and the ECS in Rumbek formed a group aimed at building peace as well as bringing people for peace talks at Rumbek’s Freedom Square on various occasions.
He recalled that the ECS organized a workshop in Rumbek bringing together people from Western Equatoria, Warrap, Western and Northern Bahr El Ghazal and Lakes states.
Bishop Manyang, who has just arrived from Scotland where he travelled for medical attention, reiterated the Church’s commitment to work for sustainable peace through reconciliation.
