Eastern Equatoria state has launched yet another investigation into the persistent unauthorized recruitment of teachers.

Seven probe teams have been formed to handle investigations at each county while another team carries its investigations in the ministry.

State minister for Public Service and Human Resource Development, William Emilio Odingila, told Emmanuel Radio that the investigation into the ghost teachers stems from the monthly increase of the number of teachers on the government’s payroll without the knowledge of the authorities.

The minister said various institutions are involved in the recruitment drive that causes inflation in the payroll.

Mr. Odingila said the unauthorized recruitment started during the Khartoum regime where every government official employed relatives; the mentality has lives on to date.

He revealed that the state council of ministers decided to centralize the recruitment system to control the workforce but some officials do not follow the rules.

The ongoing investigation into the existence of ghost employees in the state is the second exercise by the state government in an effort to clear the payroll of ghost workers and others recruited through illegal means.

Over 1,000 ghost employees were discovered in the first investigation, but more keep infiltrating the government payroll every month.
