The US special envoy to Sudan said the conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile has put on hold the normalization of relations between Washington and Khartoum.

The US administration pledged to resume bilateral relations with the Sudan if Khartoum allowed South Sudan’s independence peacefully.

Prince Lyman told SCR news that the conflict in both South Kordofan and Blue Nile caused human rights and humanitarian problems, stopped the processes of popular consultation and interrupted the process to normalize relations.

Mr. Lyman said South Sudan should stay out of the conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile to avoid the return to war.

He urged Sudan and the SPLM-North to get back to negotiations since the conflict does not have a military solution.

Mr. Lymann said the US will continue to work with both groups towards a final solution to the conflict in both South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.
