The Catholic diocese of Wau is preparing to host the plenary assembly of the bishops of Sudan and South Sudan next week.

The Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SCBC) meeting is expected to kick off on October 19 and ends on the 29th.

Santino Murokomomo Maurino, secretary general of the SCBC in Khartoum, arrived in Wau Monday to prepare with the diocesan personnel the welcoming of the bishops.

He told Voice of Hope that the conference will discuss the relations between the Church in both the Sudan and in South Sudan together with issues related to the formation of priests.

Fr. Maurino explained that the participants in the SCBC plenary will visit a number of Christian historical sites in the diocese.

He said about 40 people will attend the SCBC plenary assembly.

During the event, the Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI) and the Voice of Hope Radio will be officially inaugurated.

Fr. Maurino called on the Christians and the people of good will to pray for the success of the SCBC conference.

The Bishops’ meeting is one of the most important pastoral activities of the Catholic Church in the year.
