KIIR CALLS FOR CLOSER CONTACTS BETWEEN JUBA AND KHARTOUM

The President of South Sudan has called for closer links between the governments of Juba and Khartoum in order to stop rumours and bring the pending negotiations to a quick resolution.

Salva Kiir Mayardit said during a press conference in Khartoum on Sunday that he used the telephone often to talk with Omar Al-Bashir.

He added the two presidents should keep direct contacts by telephone and through meetings to keep the work the negotiations between the two governments through the committees in good track.

Mr. Kiir thanked the warm and colourful welcome he and his delegation received during their first official visit to Khartoum after the independence.

He added that South Sudan wants to keep a good relationship with the Sudan built in understanding and dialogue.

Mr. Kiir denounced people who want to bring tension between the two governments.

He said war is not a solution, but the two countries must keep dialogue and the bilateral negotiations on track.

Last weekend, Mr. Kiir paid his first official visit to Khartoum to re-launch negations on borders and oil industry.
