The Christian faithful in Rumbek Monday expressed appreciation for the Comboni family in South Sudan, thanking God for the gift of Christian faith that has reached them through the evangelization ministry of their members.
Some faithful shared their intercessory prayers during the Eucharistic celebration in memory of St. Daniel Comboni at Holy Family Cathedral in Rumbek, Good News Radio reported.Thomas Arik thanked God for the gift of St. Daniel Comboni, sent by God to the Sudan.
He added that the followers of St. Comboni, who have continued his mission, have also to be appreciated, including late Bishop Caesar Mazzolari and other missionaries serving in the Diocese of Rumbek.
He went on to pray that the Diocese be soon blessed with a new bishop in the footsteps of St. Daniel Comboni.
Placido Lual echoed the prayer of Mr. Arik, acknowledging the role of the Comboni Family in the process towards the independence of South Sudan.
He said members of the Comboni family helped South Sudanese realize their true identity, most of them from Italy, and helped to develop literature on Dinka and Nuer tribes.
The main celebrant at the Comboni Day Mass in Rumbek, Fr. Fernando Colombo, called on all the faithful to contribute to the ministry of evangelization, saying it was the belief of St. Comboni that all the baptized are missionaries.
He also reminded the congregation of the three-fold mission of the Church as lived by St. Daniel Comboni: namely, the proclamation of the word of God, the provision of health care, and empowering people through education.
