The Catholic archdiocese of Khartoum celebrated the first Comboni Day after the split of the country under the theme “Called as one family in Christ to be Holy and to witness to the Kingdom of God”.
St. Daniel Comboni died in Khartoum on October 10, 1981.During the homily, Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako asked the Christians to pray to Comboni to ask Jesus to increase the love to offer oneself for the others.
Before the final blessing, the cardinal told the Christians who filled the Comboni playground that he sent his greetings to those who will be leaving for South Sudan.
Cardinal Zubeir encouraged them to go and raise the flag of Jesus up in their hearts.
“God be with those going and those staying”, he said.
The Cardinal thanked the Comboni Missionaries, both male and female, and recognized that most of them are becoming old.
He urged the Comboni priests and sisters who are Africans to be strong like Daniel Comboni wanted them.
Cardinal Zubeir said last year five Comboni sisters left the vocation.
He asked the formators to get good people into formation houses and teach them Christian education.
