The global climatic change has affected South Sudan’s humanitarian situation with both draught and floods creating a huge food gap that threatens part of its population.

The national minister humanitarian affairs and disaster management Joseph Lual Achuil told the media that heavy rainfall has affected harvesting in seven states and the food crisis is critical, Bakhita Radio reported.

The seven states include Jonglei that is completely flooded, Unity, Warrap, Upper Nile, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, and parts of Western and Eastern Equatoria.

Mr. Lual said late planting and floods created a food gap of 400 thousand metric tons and his ministry is working hard to find food to allow people to live until September of next year.

He asked the government and UN agencies to raise funds in order to recover South Sudan from the food crisis threatening its population.
