The UN Mission in South Sudan known as UNMISS has reinstated staff from Abyei who was working for the former mission after their contracts were terminated.
Cecilia Biong told SCR News on the phone today that her husband and other UN staff from Abyei were being given new contracts after a long discussion with the new mission in South Sudan.Hilde Johnson, head of UNMISS, said the UN staff from the Abyei have the opportunity to work with the mission until further notice.
She said the issues were sorted out and that all staff from Abyei will receive their salaries.
Ms. Johnson explained that there was a problem with contracting arrangements when staff had to leave Abyei abruptly due to SAF√É’s military action in the region in May.
