Civilians from Tonj South County, in Warrap State, handed in to their chiefs more than 300 during an ongoing disarmament exercise.

Tonj South County chief of police Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Mayiei said youths gave their guns to the chiefs after the authorities asked civilians to hand in unauthorized guns, Don Bosco FM reported.

He added that the public understood that firearms can cause trouble among the communities.

Mr. Mayiei said all the collected guns are being kept by the chiefs and they will take the responsibility to give them to the community when they are needed.

He praised the disarmament drive saying that it will improve peaceful coexistence among different communities.
