Residents in Lakes State have now the possibility of learning English through the airwaves thanks to an international NGO that is broadcasting lessons in the region.
Africa Educational Trust (AET) is airing a 30-minute program called “Speak up” twice a week on Good News Radio.AET program Manager in Lakes State, Philip Mapuor Madit, announced to students and teachers that the English language program began today.
He urged students and teachers to be at their respective learning centres every Tuesday and Thursday on time if they want to profit from the lessons, explaining that the radio does wait for those who are late.
Mr. Mapuor said beneficiaries of the radio program include students, dropout students and members of the community who want to learn English although they did not have formal education.
He added that AET has organized 25 centres of learning in five counties of Lakes States where teachers will guide students through the radio programs.
Michael Brofy, the founder of AET in South Sudan 15 years ago, said the international NGO has spent more than 50 years supporting education in Africa.
Mr. Brofy said AET is supporting education projects in Lakes, Jonglei, Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria by training secondary school teachers, and supporting primary education and distant learning programs.
The Speak Up course will run for 50 weeks.
