A women’s leader leaving her job for further studies has called on South Sudanese to strive for professionalism, challenging the expatriates working in the new nation to empower the local personnel through capacity building.
Karak Mayik Denyok has been at the helm of Women for Women International Sudan Chapter as the Country Director for the past four years.Speaking at the farewell party last Saturday in Rumbek, she called on her compatriots to cultivate specialized skills, since South Sudan’s development will be achieved by hard work rather than by laying claims to entitlements, Good News Radio reported.
Ms. Mayik said improved security was a must to raise development.
She called on all civilians with firearms to hand them back to the government.
She challenged people to work hard towards self-reliance, since it is high time South Sudanese stopped relying on handouts from the UN and NGOs.
Ms. Mayik urged the expatriates to prepare local people to take up their jobs on the long run.
She called on the South Sudanese to be humble and learn their skills from the professional expatriates.
Director for Cooperatives in the Ministry of Rural Development in Lakes State, Mr. Gabriel Ganda Yaga, recognized the great role Women for Women International is playing in the empowerment of ladies in the State.
He cited the successful horticultural project run by women at Maker Nhom in Rumbek East County.
Mr. Ganda thanked Ms. Mayik for her tireless efforts at the service of women in the State, urging others to emulate her achievements in establishing and maintaining community projects.
Ms. Karak will be leaving for the USA to pursue a Master’s degree in Community Development.
