More than 500 people attended a wrestling competition yesterday between Kumu Fog and Amndrafi youth of Nuba Mountains.
The Kumu Fog team won the competition throwing 35 boys against Amndrafi’s 18.Malik Urende was one of the wrestlers. He said wrestling is the most important cultural form of sport sin Nuba Mountains and it makes people strong and healthy.
A group of spectators shared the same view. They said wrestling makes the young boys strong, healthier and it boosts their immune system.
They added that wrestling is one of the essential expressions of Nuba Mountains culture together with songs and dance.
Wrestling is the main game practiced among all the Nubia Mountains communities especially during the rainy season.
