The US said terrorism is close to South Sudan and the American administration is ready to assist the new nation confronting it.
Ambassador R. Barrie Walkley, Charg√Ö¬Ω d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Juba, said yesterday terrorism is not an American or a European problem but a challenge for the entire world community.He added that the Ugandan rebels of the Lord’s Resistance Army are active across South Sudan’s borders.
Ambassador Walkley said the US is prepared to assist South Sudan to confront terrorists within the country.
Ambassador Walkley made these statements on a message commemorating 10 years after the terrorist attacks that killed almost 3,000 people from 90 countries in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
He said September 11, 2001 was a day of shock and horror in the United States and around the world.
Ambassador Walkley added that the 9/11 attacks stirred up the American people into the conviction that terrorism must be confronted and defeated not just in the United States, but everywhere.
He said the Americans are determined to fight the roots of terrorism that include despair, anguish, and the lack of opportunities for ordinary people.
