Bad roads in Yei have been identified as the major factor limiting farmers’ agricultural performance in the county.

Yei River County assistant commissioner for agriculture Edmond Taban Gogo told Easter Radio that farmers in the rural areas including Ombasi, Mugwo, Rubeke and Minyori, had a very good harvest this year but could not bring their produce to the central markets due to bad roads.

He said the increase in food production indicates that the citizens of Yei can stop the dependency syndrome on imported food.

Mr. Taban appealed to youths to engage in agriculture because 80 percent of every household income comes from farming.

He urged the government to rehabilitate feeder roads and open new ones in the rural areas of Yei to connect the farmers with the markets.
