The President of the Republic met yesterday the Catholic and Anglican leaders in South Sudan and asked them to involve the Church in the process of reconciliation the government has started to bring about lasting peace.
Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba told the participants at the plenary of South Sudan’s bishops that President Salva Kiir Mayardit met yesterday with him and with Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul of the Episcopal Church of Sudan.Mr. Kiir called on church leaders to be more active in the process of national reconciliation led by the government of South Sudan.
He asked them for a feedback on the transfer of South Sudan’s capital from Juba to Ramciel in Lakes State.
Archbishop Lukudu told the bishops that these points would be discussed during their meeting in order to send their views to the President by letter.
Mr. Kiir was at the Archbishop’s House also to greet retired Bishop Joseph Gassi of Tombura-Yambio, the oldest Catholic prelate in South Sudan.
