The Catholic Bishops of South Sudan are starting tomorrow a three-day meeting in Juba to set up the Bishops’ Conference secretariat for South Sudan.
Fr. Charles Abbud, the acting secretary-general for the Bishops Conference-South Sudan secretariat, told SCR News that the bishops will study the recommendations prepared by a taskforce committee set up last May to review the secretariat’s structure.The South Sudanese bishops will also be briefed on the latest developments in the Sudan Catholic Radio Network and on South Sudan labour laws and regulations.
The bishops will discuss the position of the Catholic Church within the Sudan Council of Churches and the Church’s relationship with the government.
This is the second time the bishops of South Sudan meet on their own as a regional body.
The Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference operates with two independent secretariats is Juba and Khartoum.
