Citizen of Nuba Mountains in South Kordofan are urging the Republic of South Sudan to extend the period to convert Sudanese Pounds into the new South Sudanese Pounds in the region.
The ongoing war in South Kordofan did not allow Nuba Mountains residents to convert old Sudanese pounds and the authorities decided to introduce South Sudanese pounds instead.Last week, people from Nuba Mountains had three days to change their money, but residents complain that it was not enough to cover the all the region.
SPLM-North official in Kauda Abdulakim Mohammed Arashid said he collected a big amount of Sudanese pounds still to be exchanged for South Sudanese pounds.
He added he was waiting for instructions from Juba whether to carry on with the money collection and exchange beyond the official deadline.
Mr. Abdulakim said there was lack of communication with Juba about extending the conversion period in Nuba Mountains.
The official is urging Nuba Mountains to be patient while the government looks for ways to convert the remaining old money.
