The Government of South Sudan adopted yesterday a resolution to relocate the capital from Juba to Ramcel in its first cabinet meeting.
The relocation process is estimated to be completed within six years.Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists that the decision was taken following a security report on the issues of national capital territory by National Security Minister Oyay Deng Ajak.
He explained that there is a prolonged stalemate over the issues of the capital city of South Sudan and the cabinet resolved that the capital will be moved to Ramcel, in Lakes states.
The government of South Sudan asked Central Equatoria for a piece of land around Juba to build the national capital.
Dr. Marial explained that the Housing Minister Jemma Nunu Kumba received directives to come up with modalities on the relocation process.
Governor Clement Wani Konga of Central Equatoria was at the Cabinet meeting.
