A contractor building the Nsitu-Nadapal road has pulled out before completing the Torit-Kapoeta section because the money finished.
Eastern Equatoria roads Minister Otim Peter Karlo told Emmanuel Radio that World Food Programme and GTZ, who financed the project, abandoned the works without informing the state government. The minister said the contractor had finished much of the work between Nadapal and Kapoeta as well as between Torit and Nsitu.
Mr. Otim noted that there were some problems at Korgutun where two bad spots requiring culverts put some difficulties to road users.
He said Torit could be cut off from Juba if four major bridges are not fixed before September and October’s heavy rains.
Emmanuel Radio could not access to the contractor to verify the minister’s claims.
Mr. Otim made these statements after a 35-kilometre tour in Torit’s roads network.
The minister acknowledged that some roads in the town were not done to the required standards but the contractor would be asked to make improvements.
He asked residents not to empty their waste into the new streets.
