The government of South Sudan said today it has been able to collect at least 2.1 billion Sudanese Pounds in exchange for the new South Sudan Pound.

Government spokesperson and minister for information Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press that said 1.6 million came from the public while the rest was deposited in financial institutions.

He reminded the public that the exchange of money stopped today, adding that the old Sudanese pound is now an illegal tender.

Dr. Marial noted that the governors from the ten states reported that the conversion process was successfully carried out and recommended that the period to exchange the money should not be extended.
