MPs passed today some resolutions calling for the urgent deployment of SPLA and police forces in Jonglei and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the victims of recent tribal clashes in the state.
The resolutions calling for the deployment of security forces, reconciliation process and humanitarian aid followed a briefing by interior minister Gier Chuang who was summoned to the House to explain the recent Murle-Lou Nuer clashes that killed over 600 people.Caretaker Information Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists that the national assembly contributed ideas on how to stop cattle rustling that has always resulted in vicious revenge killings in Jonglei.
Dr. Marial said the minister was told to deploy immediately troops and police to abort any retaliatory attacks from the Lou Nuer against the Murle people.
Dr. Marial added that the MPs called on the government to send in food, medicines and shelter to the victims together with some financial support for those people to rebuild their lives.
He said there was also a call for the immediate initiation of reconciliation and peace dialogue by the state government, members of civil societies and the head of Episcopal Church of Sudan, Dr. Daniel Deng Bul Yak.
The minister added that the initiatives should be supported by the UNMISS.
The debate was followed by a government security meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit on the crisis in Jonglei.
