The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has commended the government and people of South Sudan for their participation in the ongoing inter-party dialogue on election-related matters, which is expected to conclude in the coming days.
The commendation came during a meeting in Juba on Tuesday between the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon. Africano Mande Gedima, and IGAD Special Envoy Ambassador Moussa Djama Ali. The two officials discussed progress in the electoral process and preparations for the upcoming general elections.
During the meeting, Hon. Africano briefed the envoy on the four pathways guiding the government’s electoral preparations: the legal pathway; the administrative, logistical and financial pathway; the security pathway; and the inter-party dialogue pathway.
Ambassador Djama Ali emphasised the importance of regional and international support in helping South Sudan deliver peaceful, free, fair and credible elections.
Presidential Press Secretary Ambassador Arek Ajou Deng commended IGAD for its continued support, highlighting the regional bloc’s role in coordinating regional engagement and accompanying South Sudan throughout the electoral process.
The ongoing inter-party dialogue forms part of broader efforts to strengthen political engagement among stakeholders and advance preparations for the upcoming elections.
