The National Alliance of Political Parties has withdrawn confidence in its Chairperson, Kornelio Kon Ngu, accusing him of violating the alliance’s internal regulations, making unilateral decisions and undermining relations among member parties.
The decision is contained in a press statement dated August 31, 2026, and signed by several political party leaders.
The statement says the Leadership Council unanimously withdrew confidence in Ngu, citing what it describes as commercialization of nominations to political positions and appointments of individuals allegedly lacking links to member parties.
The leaders also accuse Ngu of using his position without consultation and allocating positions to his National United Democratic Front (NUDF), without considering other parties.
They further allege that Ngu has threatened opponents, nominated relatives, friends and others without party membership documentation.
The statement also criticizes Ngu over remarks calling the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, SPLM, a military movement rather than a political party.
The alliance leaders say such remarks are discouraging to non-violent political movements and contrary to constructive opposition.
They Allance party members accused Ngu of calling for the resignation of National Election Commission Chairperson Professor Abednego Akol during a Leadership Summit on August 28, despite previously being involved in consultations over his appointment.
The statement also criticizes Ngu for allegedly calling for U.S. intervention in South Sudan.
Following the decision, the Leadership Council called on President Salva Kiir Mayardit to remove Ngu from the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, saying his continued role could contribute to instability.
The council also rejected Ngu’s nomination as a presidential candidate, saying he was not endorsed by the Leadership Council.
Meanwhile, the alliance reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement and conducting elections on time.
The statement also called for the dismissal of political parties that joined the alliance after the 2018 peace agreement, arguing that they are non-signatories.
