A pediatrician at Wau Teaching Hospital has emphasized that disease prevention begins with proper awareness and accurate medical guidance provided by healthcare workers in health facilities.

Speaking during a health program on Voice of Hope Radio focusing on hepatitis E among children, Dr. Baballah Al-Haj Al-Baya said that awareness is one of the most important steps in preventing diseases.

He explained that when a child is diagnosed with hepatitis E, regular follow-up visits at the hospital are necessary to monitor the child’s condition and begin appropriate treatment.

Dr. Baballah further noted that doctors do not encourage the use of traditional medicine because its effectiveness has not been scientifically proven, and it may worsen the patient’s condition.

He encouraged community members to seek treatment at hospitals where proper medical care is available.

The doctor concluded by urging communities to visit health facilities early to receive timely treatment and avoid complications.

A scientific Preventive measure of Hepatitis E (HEV) in children primarily involves strict hygiene, specifically ensuring safe drinking water, thorough handwashing, and properly cooking pork or wild game. HEV is transmitted via the fecal-oral route, making improved sanitation essential to stop the spread.
