Southern Sudanese students in Kenya will celebrate the independence of South Sudan one week after the official celebrations in Juba.

Daniel Dut, Chairperson of the Southern Sudan Students’ Association in Kenya, told Bakhita Radio that his team is in Juba to attend the independent celebrations.

He said the delegation is to lobby for funds and get the coat of arms, flag and other legal items that represent South Sudan’s sovereignty.

The students’ leader explained that the team would hurry to Kenya after celebrations here in order to organize the party there.

Mr. Dut applauded the independence of the region but acknowledged the long awaiting difficulties the new country will undergo.

He called upon the international community to continue supporting the Republic of South Sudan.

He urged people to live in peace.

Mr. Dut concluded that South Sudanese diversity should help the country to unite and build a strong and viable state.
